Our goals for advising students at Concordia University:
- To prepare students to make thoughtful and informed life decisions.
- To promote dedicated service in students' chosen vocations.
- To assist faculty in providing accurate information about completing degree requirements and meeting academic standards as well as serving as mentors to students.
At Concordia University, we predominately use faculty advisors. Faculty advisors are full-time members of specific academic departments who understand the academic and transitional needs of Concordia students and want to see students succeed. Faculty advisors usually work with between 20–25 advisees. They specialize in advising in their field (English, Biology, Business, etc.) but also advise students on General Education issues.
The Director of Traditional Advising and Student Transitions Advisor work in the Academic Advising Center and are professionals trained to work with students who are new to Concordia or undecided about their major. They also answer questions from current students regarding academic policies and procedures. Students with questions regarding General Education requirements, declaring a major, and academic appeals can be directed to the Academic Advising Center. The staff in the Academic Advising Center do not specialize in advising in any one department, but they can usually answer questions about basic departmental requirements.
